Dear teachers, and all my dear fellow students!
There are books that help us learn about another story. There are books that help us understand another person. And there are also books that make us fall silent, reflect, and want to become better people. To me, “The Green Lotus Bud” by writer Son Tung is a book like that.
When mentioning President Ho Chi Minh, we think of a beloved leader of the Vietnamese nation. But have we ever wondered: Before becoming President Ho Chi Minh, what kind of boy was he? What nurtured his soul and shaped his ideals? “The Green Lotus Bud” helps us find the answers to these questions.
The book consists of 362 pages and is divided into three parts, telling the story of the childhood, growing years, and the formation of the ideals of Nguyen Sinh Cung – Nguyen Tat Thanh.
The first part takes us back to his hometown in Nghe An, where young Nguyen Sinh Cung grew up surrounded by the love of his family and homeland.
The second part describes his years of studying, growing up, and experiencing life. Through what he saw and heard, he gradually developed concerns about the fate of his country and the lives of its people.
The third part tells about the determination of the young Nguyen Tat Thanh to leave his homeland in search of a way to save the country. On June 5, 1911, from Nha Rong Wharf, he began a historic journey.
The three parts of the book are like three stages in the growth of a lotus bud: being nurtured by his homeland, gradually rising through challenges, and reaching toward a great ideal.
What moved me the most while reading the book was realizing that a great person also begins with a childhood. He once had a family to love, a homeland to miss, and teachers to respect. But from that love, he nurtured an even greater love – love for his country and his fellow countrymen.

Dear teachers and fellow students,
Books can do more than simply tell us stories. Some books allow us to discover remarkable people, while others encourage us to pause, reflect, and look at life from a different perspective. For me, The Green Lotus Bud by Son Tung is one of those meaningful books.
When we think of President Ho Chi Minh, we often remember him as the great leader of our nation. Yet, have we ever wondered what his childhood was like? What experiences shaped his character and gradually awakened his aspirations for his country?
The Green Lotus Bud gives us an opportunity to explore those questions.
With 362 pages, the book is divided into three parts, portraying the childhood, youth, and gradual formation of the ideals of Nguyen Sinh Cung – Nguyen Tat Thanh.
The first part brings us to his beloved homeland of Nghe An. There, young Nguyen Sinh Cung grew up in a warm family environment and was deeply influenced by the traditions and spirit of his homeland.
The second part follows his journey of learning, growing, and experiencing the realities of life. Through the people he met and the things he witnessed, he gradually became aware of the hardships faced by his country and its people. These experiences helped shape his thoughts and aspirations.
The third part portrays the courageous decision of the young Nguyen Tat Thanh to leave his homeland in search of a path to liberate his country. On June 5, 1911, from Nha Rong Wharf, he embarked on a journey that would become an important turning point in Vietnamese history.
The three parts of the book remind me of the three stages of a lotus bud: first being nourished by its roots and homeland, then growing stronger through challenges, and finally reaching toward the light of a greater ideal.
What touched me most was the realization that greatness does not appear overnight. Before becoming a great leader, President Ho Chi Minh was once a young boy with a loving family, a cherished homeland, and respected teachers.
From those simple yet precious experiences, he gradually cultivated a much greater love — a love for his country and his people.
For me, The Green Lotus Bud is not merely a book about the early life of President Ho Chi Minh. It is also a reminder that our values, dreams, and ideals are shaped by the people and experiences that accompany us as we grow.
