The line graph illustrates the percentage of expenditure in a europeaan country on five different categories, namely food, leisure, clothing, transport and energy between 1960 and 2000.
Overall. there was a clear downward trend in spending on food, leisure, transport, and energy while the proportion of expenditure on clothing increased steadily throughout the period. Food consistently accounted for the largest share of spending until the end of the period, although it dropped significantly.
In 1960, food was the most dominant category, making up around 30% of total spending. However this figure fell continuosly over the four decades to approximately 14% by 2000. Leisure also declined from about 20% to just above 10% during the same period. A similar downward pattern was observed in transport (from 10% to 5%) and energy (from 5% to only 1%)
By constrast, clothing experienced the opposite trend. Starting at just under 10% in 1960, its proportion gradually rose and eventually overtook leisure and food by 2000, reaching around 15%. This made clothing one of the major spending categories at the end of the period
