The Nile River, or Nile, is a river in Africa, the main river of North Africa, often considered the longest river in the world, with a length of 6,853 km and flowing into the Mediterranean Sea, however, some other sources cite a 2007 study that said this river is only second in length to the Amazon River in South America.
The northern part of the Nile flows mainly through the desert. Most of the Egyptian population, except for some coastal residents, lives along the banks of the Nile starting north of the city of Aswan. The remains of ancient Egyptian civilization are also concentrated along both banks of the Nile. The Nile is also a traffic artery, especially during the flood season, when road vehicles cannot move.
