In the current time, you may find out that many youngsters tend to listen to songs from pop artists, like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Doja Cat. On the contrary, I often tune into indie songs because of their unique styles. The singer that I have a special place in my mind is Cameron Lew, commonly known as "Ginger Root".
Despite being one of the few Asian-American artists, Cameron is a notable figure in the indie music industry. His songs are commonly considered as "elevator music", due to their nostalgic feelings. Take his most famous track, "Loretta", as an example, the lyrics with the background music are tailored to his style.
Although, to some, his style of music often much resembles the Japanese's "city pop" music genre, having emerged since the early 1980s, to me, his creative way of utilising familiar tunes makes his works highly sought after by many listeners. Throughout listening to his previous works, I've learnt that familiar tunes can also be interesting, simply by using the artist's creativity.
