S = 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + 100
= (100 × 101) : 2
= 5050
Tổng của 29 số còn lại là:
T = S - (1 + 2 + 3 + ... + 71)
= 5050 - (71 × 72) : 2
= 5050 - 2556
= 2494
(Để tìm 71 số sao cho tổng của chúng bằng 2494, ta có thể chia đôi tổng này thành hai phần bằng nhau)
Mỗi phần có tổng là :
2494 : 2 = 1247
