Famous Vietnamese musician, artist, painter, and poet Trinh Cong Son was also a poet. On February 28, 1939, he was born in Dac Lac, and on April 1, 2001, he passed away. He started composing music in 1958. He is a significant figure in contemporary (non-classical) Vietnamese music, along with Pham Duy and Van Cao. Trinh has written a lot of love songs. Some of these songs were censored by the southern Republic of Vietnam and later by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Other songs are anti-war songs that were written during and about the Vietnam War. Numerous performers have interpreted Trinh Cong Son's music, most notably Khanh Ly and Hong Nhung.
