Talk about Vietnamese customs and traditions ( greetings, table manners, Tet holiday...)

Ancestor veneration, which is a very common tradition throughout Asia, including Vietnam, is what I would mention if asked to describe an interesting tradition in my home country. Since nearly every Vietnamese home, regardless of religious affiliation, has an ancestor altar, in my opinion, this tradition is undoubtedly the most defining aspect of Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese people typically perform these ceremonies not only to demonstrate their filial duty but also to ask their ancestors for guidance, advice, and occasionally protection whenever they need it because there is a widespread belief that the deceased have an impact on the fortune of the living. My parents and grandparents used to always commemorate the passing of our departed ancestors on their birthdays, so I've actually been aware of this custom since I was a young child. I seem to recall that on these occasions, platters of food are continued to serve on the altars as offerings, along with the burning of incense sticks and hell notes. The reason I think this is a fascinating tradition in Vietnam is that women have traditionally been allowed to participate in and officiate at ancestral rites, unlike Chinese Confucian doctrine, which only allows male descendants to perform such rituals. I firmly believe that customs like these in Vietnam should be passed down to the younger generation so that they can learn about them and keep them alive as a way for them to honor the past.
