In some regular schools, there are students with visual impairments. This is a good opportunity for them to integrate into society. However, the drawback is that they cannot fully participate in school activities; therefore, they are often left behind.
How can we deal with this problem and help those children? First, we should provide them with specialized learning materials such as Braille or large print books. With the help of those materials, they will be able to learn more effectively. They can also explore and broaden their knowledge of the world on their own. Besides, if possible, schools with visually-impaired students should be equipped with talking computers. They will be able to do their own assignments on computers or look for necessary information for their assignments on the Internet with the help of those special computers.
Second, schools with visually-impaired students should encourage their students to form study groups that involve students with visual disabilities. Studying in a group will definitely benefit students with special needs because it enables them to catch up with their non-disabled peers. It also allows more interaction between disabled students and non-disabled ones, which helps create an atmosphere of friendliness and respect. Moreover, it helps develop a sense of responsibility and community among non-disabled students.
All in all, it is great that visually-impaired students are able to study in regular schools. However, their full involvement in school activities might not be ensured, which may cause them to lag behind their peers. Therefore, specialized materials and tools and more contacts through study groups between disabled students and non-disabled students are necessary in order to help students with disabilities to study well and integrate better into ordinary schools.
